Membership

Becoming a member of a local church is making a public commitment to serve and support the work of the congregation. Membership is a public promise (like that of marriage, citizenship, etc.) that binds a person to the church.  It is a promise to become a partner of ministry, while submitting under the spiritual guidance and discipline of the church’s leadership.  Although every believer is a part of the universal church at large, it is only through membership that someone is a part of a local church.

We have a Membership Class offered to those who want to commit to our church as members. In this class we discuss the foundational beliefs of our faith, as well as the mission and values of our church.

Baptism

Baptism is a sacrament instituted by Jesus Christ. It is a public faith confession that you are unified with Jesus Christ, scripture says “for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ” (Gal. 3:27).  Baptism represents what is happening spiritually in our hearts when coming to saving faith in Jesus Christ, thereby bring you into the family of God.

Adult baptism- In order to be baptized at our church, you must first complete our Membership Class, and express a credible confession of faith Upon completing the classes and being interviewed by our elders, you will be eligible to be baptized in our public worship service.

Infant baptism-  If parents are good standing members of the church, their children may also receive baptism. Through infant baptism both the parents and the whole congregation make vows to lovingly raise them in the Christian faith. Baptized children are officially recognized as non-communing members of the church. Parents must attend a mandatory infant baptism class.

Confirmation

When an infant who was baptized reaches an age to be able to discern their own faith, they are given the opportunity through confirmation to claim that faith as their own. Our Confirmation Class is a time for them to explore their faith, learn the doctrines of the church, and commit to the mission of our church. Upon completion of the class, they must also be interviewed by our elders before making their public confession to the church. Once they are confirmed, they are now invited to partake in the Lord’s Supper and vote as communing members of the church.

Communion or also known as the Lord’s Supper is also a sacrament instituted by Jesus Christ. It is one of thanksgiving and remembrance for the self-sacrifice of Jesus Christ once and for all time on the cross. The bread/wafer represents the body of Christ broken for us, and the cup represents his blood shed on our behalf. We invite our communing members and other believing guests to join us at the table.
